Ja! Ik heb jullie afgelopen zondag niks gestuurd. Ik was zo diep in mijn vakantie gegleden dat ik het moment aan me voorbij heb laten gaan. Héérlijk! Maar deze week maak ik het goed. Met veel Neal Gaiman, en een paar wakker schuddende inzichten over kernwaarden, overtuigingen en luisteren. En nog wat losse flodders. Tot volgende week.
Neil Gaiman
Schreef American Gods. Combineert verwondering, iets duisters en absurde humor om je wereld op zijn kant te zetten. Ik vond het een geweldig boek en ben het nu aan het herlezen om te kijken of ik dat nog steeds vind. Er wordt NU een tv serie van uitgezonden.

For those who don’t know the book, the plot involves an ex-con named Shadow Moon, his relationship with his wife, Laura, and a war between the Old Gods (think Odin, Bast, Czernobog, Anansi, etc.) who are losing followers to the New Gods (Media, Technology, Corporations, etc.). As the Old Gods lose followers, they also lose their essence—to be forgotten by humanity spells death for them.

Neil is getrouwd met het kunstwerk / muzikant / performance artist Amanda Palmer. Zij is bevriend met Maria Popova, je weet wel, die van brainpickings. Die organiseerde een avond voor powervrouwen. Neil schreef een gedicht over vrouwen in de wetenschap. Amanda droeg het voor. Kippenvel.

Een al wat oudere TED talk kwam onder mijn neus via Saar Francken. Hij heeft vijf morele waarden geëxtraheerd die het fundament vormen onder onze politieke keuzes. Hij bied erg verhelderende AHA!! inzichten die ook weer het begin kunnen zijn van anders luisteren, anders begrijpen en meer vragen stellen.

En dan is hier The Oatmeal. Die maakte een cartoon over wat er gebeurt als iemand iets zegt dat jouw diepste overtuigingen uitdaagt. Ook hier had ik weer een paar grote AHA's. Hoewel hij ook aannames doet over wat zijn lezers shockerend vinden die bij mij niet helemaal kloppen. Dat van George Washington's tanden wist ik :-D

En over luisteren gesproken. Jullie weten dat ik regelmatig met een bordje "ik luister naar jouw verhaal" de straat op ga. Benjamin Mathes heeft dat in het leven geroepen. Hij heeft nu een podcast. Ik vind hem fijn om naar te luisteren en inspirerend.

Punk in de psychiatrie
Dit vond ik gewoon een mooi verhaal. Een punkmuzikant die jong psychotisch wordt en hoe hij zijn praktijkervaring nu kan inzetten in de psychiatrie. Ik werkte met dakloze jongeren in de jaren '90 en een vriend van me was psychotisch. Ik ben ervan overtuigd dat een ervaringsdeskundige, the 'wounded healer' (Chiron) ze enorm had kunnen helpen. Een fijne longread dit. Als je er zin in hebt.
